Ein Bewässerungsverbot kann bei anhaltender Trockenheit und niedrigen Wasserständen angeordnet werden. In Deutschland gibt es jedoch keine bundesweit einheitliche Regelung. Landkreise und kreisfreie Städte entscheiden abhängig von der örtlichen Wassersituation, ob die Wasserentnahme eingeschränkt wird.

Für Rasenbesitzer sind deshalb die regionalen Vorgaben entscheidend. Je nach Allgemeinverfügung können Entnahmen aus Flüssen, Bächen oder Seen betroffen sein. Teilweise können auch private Brunnen eingeschlossen werden. Manche Regelungen unterscheiden außerdem zwischen verschiedenen Bewässerungsarten.

Ein Bewässerungsverbot bedeutet nicht automatisch, dass jede Form der Bewässerung untersagt ist. In bestimmten Regionen kann das Schöpfen kleiner Mengen mit einer Gießkanne weiterhin erlaubt sein, während Pumpen oder größere Entnahmen eingeschränkt werden.
